Where Is Justice?
Not just the former Zimbabwe People's Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) combatants have accused the Zanu PF led government of stripping off and parcelling out their seized properties to party politicians, ordinary citizens too have had their property seized, confiscated by the barrel of gun, and dispossed. Such is the case of the Muringani family whose home was forcefully taken and occupied by the ZANU-PF political thugs who promptly and in an instant disposseded the owners without recourse to justice. There are many reasons why anyone opposing ZANU-PF can find themselves homeless for voicing their opinion against the government or its oppressive and shackling policies which has affected millions of ordinary citizens.
Jane Muringani was a freedom fighter. She was known as 'Commader Jane Muringani'. When she died the same ZANU-PF issued a communique dated 26 November 2007 commemorating her death and celebrated her and confirmed that her family can be contacted at number 332D, Momngemery Drive, Prospect, Waterfalls, Harare to extend condolences. The said letter was copied by NANU-PF Secertary, one Mr. D.N.E. Matasa to the then Minister of Justice, to the Legal & Parliament Affairs, to the Minister of Public Service, Labour & Welfare, to the Minister of Home Affairs and to the Party Chairman of Harare Province, at the time. Such was the reputation of Jane Muringani. All these lofty action did not stop ZANU-PF from seizing her property. On 15 July 2018, the same ZANU-PF political party activists came to the property and demanded that the tenants, Ms. Meissa Mapanga & Ms.Pauline Kamtaun vacate the house, without previous notices or warnings. The ladies were sleeping at the time of their arrival. They were forced to pack their belongings out within two hours. One of the ladies was in the shower when they came. She was embarrased, starled and felt vulnerable and frightened. She feared she may be raped. In fact both women were sexually assaulted, malhandled and feared that they would be raped on that day. The ZANU-PF thugs changed the locks to the entrance of the house as well as changed the padlock of the main gate. They were not allowed to return to collect their other belongings which are properties that mattered to them. That was cruel and both women are still angry about losing their personal properties. But to whom can they go for justice? Alas, to no one! Victims are powerless like that in Zimbabwe.Cold Blooded Murder
Winston Muringani, born 14/06/1987, was the youngest son of Jane Muringani. He was infuriated when he was told that his mother's house had been seized and tenants turfed out. He left South Africa where he was and came back to Harare to reclaim the house from the new occupiers on the 14th of February 2018. However he was beaten mercilessly and he had suffered multiple cuts & bruises and lacerations and to his chest and upper body area. The most significant trauma suffered was a blunt force to his head (in the occipital area), causing a crushing of his skull, resulting in profuse bleeding, oedema and visible fractures as reported. He succumbed to his injuries at St. Annes's Hospital in Harare and was pronounced dead at 13.35hrs on the same day. He was buried in Harare. His grave remains there to this day.
The eldest son William Muringani was an anti-Mugabe and anti ZANU-PF protester before escaping to the United Kingdom and claiming asylum there. Even in the UK he remained an activist and he is just as against President Emmerson Mnangagwam and the ZANU-PF as he was against the Late Robert Mugabe. He can be seen with others protesting against Zimbabwe Government in from of their embassy in London (See capioned photo above). He is a proper Hondo warrior at heart. He too has been seeking to evict the illegal occupiers from his family home in Harare. His solicitors in Harare withdrew from seeking legal redress as they were threathened with death threats. Should William, a known activist and opposition enemy of the state show his face in Zimbabwe or seek to pursue justice for his late mother or his brother he may find his own life at risk. There are two Muringani graves in Harare, there need not be a third. An untimely death should not be the portion of this genuine Hondo son of Zimbabwe.
Fugitive or refugee?
Zimbabwe does not protect those who are publicly aginst the government, even if their mother or father was a war hero. William Muringani said he is certain that death awaits him in Zimbabwe. He has been emotionally & mentally affected and psycholigically traumatised over his brother's death and the theft of his family home. Sadly, it can be said that in the UK he is a refugee and in Zimbabwe he is an outlaw. An enemy of the state? Will there ever be justice for the Muringanis? That is the million dollar question!
